Food and Accommodation

Hostel facilities are available for both men and women at very reasonable price. There are 16 Halls and Hostels under the University of Calcutta giving convenience to around 1550 understudies concentrating in the University Colleges of Arts, Commerce, Science ,Technology and Law and furthermore the Undergraduate understudies of the schools just as men research researchers/colleagues of the University. The executives of Halls/Hostels are executed by Board of Residence, as warning body of the University of Calcutta.

About Department of Business Management (DBM-Kolkata) [University of Calcutta]

Since 1976, the University of Calcutta has been teaching the qualities and standards of business management (as a course), under the umbrella of the commerce department. The Department of Business Management was shaped, as a different division, in 1985 to adapt to the expanding significance of the executives instruction. The division inside a brief timeframe made its imprint in the realm of business by giving excellent management education at a reasonable cost and at present is viewed as extraordinary compared to other post-graduate offices on Business Management both at a National just as a worldwide level. In 2016, the Department of Business Management, University of Calcutta was given the Dewang Mehta National Education Awards for Business College with Best Academic Input (Syllabus) in Marketing in India.

A brief history about Calcutta University…

The University of Calcutta was established on 24 January 1857. It is the first institution in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university. Recent Events held at Institute are

  • Idea workshop was organised by 'Catch them Young' to encourage development of crative ideaqs by students to tackle buisness challenges. It was held Techno India on February 23, 2019, followed by a 4-6 week long mentoring programme held online in the February- March, 2019
  • ParthoP. Lodh, Head of HR Jio, conducted an interactive session on 'HRIS' at the campus on March, 25 2019, as a guest lecturer and explained vital benefits of HRIS future of HR in the era of AI and the evolution of HR as strategic Buisness  Partner in today's scenario.
  • In the memory of Professor Kshitimohan Mukherjee, the annual Kshitimool Mukherjee Memorial Lecture was organised at the campus on March 26, 2019 which was conducted by Professor Sugata Marjit on Economics behind 'Inequality'.
  • An Industry Visit was organised on May 3, 2019 to Indian Oil Corporation Limted (IOCL), Rajbandh, which included an informative tour of the site followed by presentations and interactive sessions conducted by management team of IOCL which proved to be an enriching learning experience for all students.
  • In keeping with the annual tradition of our department, ‘Meet-2019’ was held on May 11,
    2019, at Middleton Chambers, giving students an opportunity to interact with reputed
    alumni of the department associated with various esteemed institutions and
  • Global Links (A Public Private Partnership between the U.S. Department of State’s Office
    of Global Women’s Issues, Rollins College and Tupperware Brands) gave students an
    opportunity to volunteer for ‘Global Links India Alumni Connect 2019’ – A five-month
    long programme designed to mentor students while they interact with various real-life
    women entrepreneurs and experience hands-on learning, beyond their classrooms. Its
    launch event was held on August 22, 2019, at the American Centre Building and Library,

Anti ragging

Ragging, in the entirety of its structures, is completely prohibited in the University. According to the Supreme Court of India order; anybody indulging in ragging will be rebuffed fittingly. University has a 'Zero resilience strategy' in this regard. Moreover, there is an anti-ragging council in the University to deal with such sort of law infringement.

How to reach

Railway Station

It takes 12 minutes to travel from Howrah Station to Calcutta University Alipore Campus. Approximate driving distance between Howrah Station and Calcutta University Alipore Campus is 10 kms or 6.2 miles or 5.4 nautical miles. Travel time refers to the time taken if the distance is covered by a car.


Campus is 23.1 Kms from Airport and one can reach approximately 40 minutes by car.
