About Delhi School of Economics, Department of Commerce

Delhi School of Economics came into being in the year 1949 just two years down the line after independence. The vision towards building a pristine institute of advance learning and research centre in the field of Social Science in India was led by Prof V KR V Rao and his group of visionary intellectuals. DSE tok its tinder steps towards excellence and glory under the guidance and learning of London School of Economics.

Later in the year 1967 when Prof Rao became the Vice Chancellor of the university, DSE spread its tentacles to various disciplines namely sociology, geography business management and commerce. It has been pioneering in the field of economics and commerce since 1949 by maintaining quality faculties from different ambit of excellence and producing torch bearer of tomorrow. In its history spanning over five decades, it has redefined commerce education in the country.

The rapid growth of the Department of Commerce is reflected in its expansion as well as novelty in its academic programs. This has led to the commencement of master level professional programmers, in addition to the traditional M. Phil., Ph.D. and their flagship M.Com. Programs.

The department of Commerce extends MBA study in the field of IB and MHROD spanning upto two years. The course curriculum has imbibed versatility in it and made adaptable to every changing scenario.  Whether it is IB and MHROD, DSE aims at producing creamy layer for the industry who are motivated and diligent towards work and believes in excellence.

DSE provides world wide opportunities to students acclaiming high analytical and industrial skills. Students pooling from diversified culture dive deep into the well of knowledge at DSE caters to a deep sense of learning and outsmart their desired domain. Over the last couple of years the package has been significantly shifting towards large numbers. This continuous triumph can be directly attributed towards distinguished faculty and enthusiastic student cluster.

Department of Commerce and business faculty is known for their expertise both nationally and internationally in their respective areas of knowledge. They have large number of in-house core faculty, Adjunct Faculty, Visiting Faculty(Dr. M P Singh,Director,Business Development Blue Scope Steel ; Mr. Tenzil Ansari Assistant Prof. French ) and also have a large number of speakers from Industry.

The department of commerce has streamlined the definition of commerce into simpler form. IT claims and takes pride in being one of the premium institutions of commerce by nurturing all due learnings not only to the freshers but also to people with dwarf insights. Due to its splendid exposure and academic performance in the year 1995 MBA-IB and MBA-MHROD had been drafted and it has been in limelight since ten years glorifying the institute from alpha to omega.

In the Financial Year 19-20 the highest package bagged was 18 LPA and the average package was  10.57 LPA. More than 55 companies visited in the last financial year to recruit for their organisation, out of which 27 were new recruiters. Companies like HDFC life, ANZ Bank, CITI, ICICI Bank, KPMG were a part of the recruitment cell.

Admissions & Cut-Offs

INDIAN STUDENTS :

  • Passed Bachelor's Degree examination of the University of Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent there to in any discipline, with minimum 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent there to in the grading system. Relaxation in eligibility for students of reserved category would be as per university rules.
  • Appeared for CAT conducted by Indian Institute of Management(IIMs).
  • Candidates appearing in the final year examination of Bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply.

FOREIGN STUDENTS :

  • 10+2+3 years of education.
  • Medium of instruction should have been English/ should have English Proficiency certificate of TOEFL (minimum 70) or IELTS (minimum 6 band)/English Language Proficiency test (ELPC).
  • The candidate should have studied Mathematics at school/ graduation level.
  • Good Academic Record (II Division, i.e., 50 percent or equivalent CGP Score).
  • Appeared in GMAT/CAT/XAT/MAT.

  • HR Symposia: The SDC organizes its flagship event 'HR Symposia' once every year in the month of October. It involves a series of guest lectures over consecutive days, inviting people from the industry to come & share their experiences in the industry while at the same time focusing on the latest trends and conceptual & theoretical aspects of HR & OD.
  • IB Symposia: IISAC organizes the annual IB Symposia – Rethink. There is a lot of learning shared by eminent personalities from their experience in different fields enthralling the students of MBA (IB) to acquire fruitful insights from different sessions of the day.

Synergy: Synergy is the Annual Management Fest organized by students of MBA (IB) & MBA (HRD), Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics. It involves the sharpest management brains across the country participating in plethora of events and competitions.

Jigyasa: HRD’s annual journal endeavors to promote and disseminate knowledge in the complex multidisciplinary field of Human Resource Management and Organizational Development. Its objective is to disseminate concepts of professional management and contribute to a better understanding of the systems, resources, theory and performance of people in organization

UDAY: MBA(IB)’s annual magazine which aims to disseminate information relating to all domains of international business and enhance knowledge about the managerial know-hows.
