Women:- Apart from the other University hostels, there is a hostel exclusively for women students of the Delhi School of Economics called the Ambedkar-Ganguly Students’ House for Women came on stream in July 2003. The hostel is located in Dhaka Colony (near Mukherjee Nagar), and it is adjacent to a bus terminus. It is about 10 minutes by bus from the Department of Economics. In addition, women students can also apply to the Meghdoot and the Post–Graduate Hostel for Women. Enquiry about the individual hostels should be made directly from the respective hostel offices.

Men:- For male students several hostels of the University are situated on the University Campus. These are V.K.R.V. Rao Hostel, Gwyer Hall, Jubilee Hall, Mansarover Hostel, Post-graduate Men’s Hostel, International Students House. Information regarding these may be obtained directly from the respective hostel offices. 

There are various cafeteria's which offer various cuisines of food and are open 24*7.

In 1973, The Department of Business Economics, under the prestigious University of Delhi, pioneered a Masters Program in Business Economics, combining the fundamentals of economic analysis with the practical aspects of the business world. With the changing business environment, the Department has reinvented itself numerous times by updating its structure & syllabus. In year 2015, the Department awarded the Industry with its new, robust and comprehensive course structure – MBA (Business Economics) replacing its previous offering, MBE. The new course has been developed with the objective to equip students with the academic knowledge and with the proficient application of this knowledge through the means of appropriate tools. The Department attracts sharp and talented minds from all across the nation to its academic programs which includes PhD in various business and economic research fields, along with the flagship program, MBA(BE).

Admissions & Cut-Offs

Minimum Eligibility Requirements and Cutoffs for PG Programmes in Department of Business Economics (DBE)

The admissions at Department of Business Economics (DBE) are done completely on the basis of the competitive management entrance examinations that are conducted in the country on the national level.

Short-listing is done on the basis of candidates’ CAT percentile and marks scored in Class X and Class XII Examinations.

  • Candidates with the following undergraduate degrees receive extra weightage:- B. Com. (Hons.) , B. A. (Hons.) (Economics) , B. A. (Hons.) (Business Economics) , BBE , BBS/BMS , BFIA/BBA (FIA)

The Following Weightage-System is Followed For Short-Listing for GD/PI:

  • CAT Percentile - Weightage – 75%
  • Marks obtained in Class-X - Weightage – 10%
  • Marks obtained (best of four) in Class-XII - Weightage – 7.50%
  • Marks obtained in Mathematics/Business Mathematics in Class-XII Examination Weightage – 2.50%
  • Candidates with the above mentioned Graduate Degrees - Weightage – 5%

Final Selection is Based on CAT Scores, Marks Scored in GD and PI, and Marks Scored in Class X and Class XII Examinations

The Following Weightage-System is Followed For Short-Listing For Final Selection:

  • CAT Score - Weightage – 60%
  • Marks obtained in Class-X - Weightage – 5%
  • Marks obtained in Class-XII - Weightage – 5%
  • Marks obtained in Group Discussion - Weightage – 7.50%
  • Marks obtained in Personal Interview - Weightage – 20%
  • Candidates with the above mentioned Graduate Degrees - Weightage – 2.50%

Please Note, while academic background is given weightage as indicated above, there is no separate weightage for work experience etc.

Department of Business Economics (DBE) Offers Scholarships On The Basis Of Merit :

The students joining the M.A. course in Economics can compete, on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Test, for a number of scholarships awarded every year. Prominent among these are:

  • Dr. Manmohan Singh Fellowship of Rs. 5000/- per month plus a book grant ofRs.7500/- per annum
  • Exim Bank Scholarship of Rs5000/- per month
  • Prof. Suresh D. Tendulkar Memorial Scholarship of Rs2000/- per month
  • A.N. Ram scholarship o fRs1200/- per month
  • Mrs. Elizabeth Krishna Scholarship of Rs500/-per month

Department of Business Economics (DBE- Delhi) have an Anti - Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad, whose role is to monitor the measures taken by the Institute for prevention of ragging and for looking into the specific instances of ragging and complaints of ragging etc. and suggest appropriate action against individuals indulged in ragging. Anyone indulging in ragging will be punished appropriately. Institute has a 'Zero tolerance policy' in this respect.
