JS Kothari Business School was established under the Deccan Education Society (DES), by the visionary efforts of five famous personalities - Vishnu Shastri Chiplunkar, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, Mahadeo Ballal Namjoshi, and Vamanrao Apte - who founded the Deccan Education Society in Pune in 1884. Smt. Jayshree Sharadchandra Kothari laid the foundation stone of the Mumbai Campus of the Deccan Education Society.
Renowned as one of Mumbai's premier B-schools, JS Kothari Business School holds approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognition from the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Maharashtra. Its course offerings include the flagship PGDM program, offering four industry-oriented specializations. The PGDM program admits a total of 120 students with a tuition fee of INR 6.75 Lakh.

All forms of ragging are strictly prohibited within J S Kothari Business School including in its departments, constituent units, and all its premises such as academic, residential, sports, cafeteria, etc. whether situated on or off the campus. This prohibition is also applicable to student transportation, be it public or private.
